"A Day's Wait" is a story about a young boy who comes down with a fever of one hundred and two degrees. As the boy's father reads to him so he would fall asleep, the boy is very detached and not paying any attention. When the boy tells his father he does not have to stay with him if it bothered him, the father decides it is okay to leave the boy alone for awhile. When the father comes back, the boy will not let him in the room for fear of him catching the sickness he has. Only then does the boy reveal to his father that he believes he is going to die because he thinks a person is unable to survive with a temperature of forty-four degrees. The father then explains that only occurs on a Celsius thermometer, and the boy's temperature was taken on a Fahrenheit thermometer. After the boy finally understands that he is not going to die, he relaxes and sees that he will get better.
