A Clean, Well-Lighted Place

"A Clean, Well-Lighted Place" is written by Ernest Hemingway. This story is about an old man, who is deaf and without anyone but his niece. The deaf man attempts suicide one night but his niece brings the catastrophic event to a stop. The man attempts to drink his loneliness away every night. At the cafe, there is an older and a younger waiter. The young waiter is very impatient with the deaf man because he wants to stay at the cafe after they are closed, but the young waiter wants to go home to his wife. The older waiter is apathetic of the old man's intentions to stay because he would not want to be alone either. The story ends with the younger waiter refusing to give the man more to drink and they all go on their way.
